Lat/Long database errors?

I am plotting a map of Active.com activities. See a preliminary version here:

    http://dave.tycho.ws/ActiveMap/?loc=mi&racetype=running

For example, lots of the Michigan events show up in Texas. I'm using the _Results.meta.longitude and _Results.meta.latitude data from the JSON search api to locate these items. Is there a better set of lat/long data to do this with?

I can understand that users would make errors inputting lat/long to the database, but it seems funny they are all in Texas in this case.

    Thanks.

Awesome map. We actually had an issue with our geocoding provider a few months ago which put all of these events in Texas, and we ended up switching to a new provider. Note a lot of the events have already occurred so we didn't update the data in our system.

If you're seeing this issue with future events please let me know.

Actually, I see that some of these events occur in the future. Let me see what we can do.

Thanks. The orange and green dots on the map are for future events, and there are quite a few of them in TX. This issue also shows up with other states as well. Red dots are for past events, and I'm plotting them only for the past month.

We've looked into the data inconsistencies, and it's affected only a small subset of our events (the one's you've highlighted here). Unfortunately the cost of fixing these outweighs the benefit, so we're not going to be able to make any updates to our system.
