lat/lon for location in search api?

    • GatheringPoint
    • Topic created 13 years ago

Any plans to support using lat/lon for location in the search api request, or any undocumented support for this? We're starting by browsing a map, and doing city/state/country lookups from lat/on prior to hitting the search api is pretty inefficient.

    Thanks!

    Hello there,

I'd just like to confirm that you are asking if you can use the lat/lon as a value in the location parameter field? If so, this functionality is obviously not available at the moment. However, that is a really good suggestion. I will bring this back to the team to discuss the possibility. I will post an update once we review.

If you have any other suggestions for the API, please let me know. We value the feedback from our developer community and want to do everything we can to make things simpler, faster, easier, and better!

    Best regards,

    Hi Jarred,

Lat/lon in the location parameter field, as well as a radius for the search, is ideal.

    Hi Spencer,

I am gathering feedback about the possibility of this update. I'll post an update to the forum to let you know the results.

Currently, you can use the 'r = radius' parameter in order to limit the search to a specific area around your location. If a location is passed in, a radius can be specified to search as an integer. If this parameter is not specified, the system uses the default radius of 50 miles. For example, to limit your search to 25 miles: http://api.amp.active.com/search?k=running&l=92104&r=25&v=xml&api_key=wuhmn9ye94xn3xnteudxsavw
